Are you putting in the work with your content marketing, but not seeing the sales results you hoped for?
You're not the only one. Many business owners miss these three crucial elements in their marketing strategy, which can make all the difference in attracting paying clients and boosting revenue.
In this post, I'll reveal these three key things that you need to include in your marketing every day to maximize the work you're already doing and get the sales you deserve.
Let's talk about content. If you're like me, when you first started your business, you probably started making content right away. And sure, it helped your business grow.
But let me tell you, I made a big mistake early on and now I see a LOT of business owners making the same mistake. It's so easy to make this mistake, that I can catch myself reverting to doing it again when my autopilot takes over.
Here's what happened: I started an e-newsletter just because it seemed like the thing to do, without really understanding why. I didn't have any goals for any of my content, and that was a big no-no.
But now, I've learned my lesson. I make sure that my content is not only valuable but shareable too. I want people to say, "Wow, that was so helpful!" and then share it with their friends, family, or anyone who needs it.
I still include content that is not as strategic so that my audience can simply get to know me and be reminded that I'm around to help them with their online business goals. But when I'm planning my main content pieces, I'm doing it with purpose.
One trick I've learned is to do an opinion piece. When people have strong opinions, they just have to share them! And if they're aligned with what you're saying, they'll be more than happy to spread the word. So always keep your content goals in mind, and make it something that people just can't wait to share!
Now, let's talk about the importance of having a clear goal for every main piece of content. It's not just about creating content for the sake of it, or because everyone else is doing it.
You need to have a purpose and a plan. And that's where the call to action (CTA) comes in.
Your CTA is what will lead your viewers or readers to the next step, whether it's a free resource or a paid product. And here's the thing, even when you're offering something for free, you're still selling. You're selling the idea that you have something of value that can help them.
But don't worry, it doesn't have to be a hard sell. Your content should flow naturally and organically into your CTA. And it should be the next logical step for your audience to take if they want to benefit more from your expertise.
So, be clear and direct about what you want your audience to do. Whether it's clicking a button, following a link, or signing up for a newsletter, tell them exactly what you want them to do. Don't leave them guessing or searching for how to work with you.
Remember, by leading them to your resources, you're helping them even more. You're providing them with valuable tools and solutions to their problems. And that's something to be proud of, not shy about.
So, don't hold back. Give your audience the opportunity to benefit from everything you have to offer. They'll thank you for it, and you'll see the results in your sales and conversions.
All of this leads me to my final tip, which is: don’t be afraid to sell.
So many people are afraid of selling, and may not realise it consciously. It all comes down to their subconscious beliefs and money mindset.
Selling is a normal and necessary part of every business because that’s what businesses do. They sell things.
Sales are the driving force behind your business.
So if you find yourself feeling a bit icky about selling, you may have a money mindset block and think about where this may have come from for you.
A great exercise I did during Leonie Dawson’s Sales Star Masterclass (an excellent course by the way!) was to draw a picture of what you envisioned a salesperson to look like.
And what I drew and what came out of me was kind of hilarious but kind of made sense. It also indicated a major negative belief I held about sales.
It was icky: it was really a typical, sleazy-looking white guy, and there were green smell lines coming off him, and his eyes were red, and he was yelling, “Buy my shit!”
A lot of people have that kind of view of what a salesperson is or what it means to sell.
, and clearly, I have been no exception. My subconscious mind had and still has some blocks to work through around selling and sales.
But the biggest takeaway I’ve had about selling in business is that you can do it in a way that suits you. It feels good for you. It can be fun, and it can feel really good.
In fact, I'm really big on taking the reigns and designing your business the way you want it to be.
You can sell from a genuine place, where you're simply telling your clients how you have an amazing product that can help to create important change in their life.
You need to get it into their hands because you genuinely know it’s going to help them.
So, just remember, you can do it in a really natural and helpful way, and it doesn’t have to be like anyone else you’ve seen sell before. You can find your own style, and that goes for anything in business.
You don’t have to do it the way some guru tells you to or the way someone else does it just because you’ve seen someone else do it that way. You can make your own rules, but you do need to sell in some way.
